I used to be a normal, well adjusted member of society. Well... maybe
not. <g> But there were still plenty of things that I just
didn't do. This page is dedicated to those things I have done anyway as
a result of my instant fascination with the Watcher known as Adam
Pierson who was secretly his own assignment, the Immortal, Methos.
While I've always had an active imagination, I didn't write fanfic, and
hadn't written much of anything in about a decade. During my high
school years, I wrote several fantasy stories. While writing, I would
imagine myself as the main character, in much the same way that I'd
imagine myself as my PC while roleplaying. I couldn't do that with
other people's characters before Methos. This is still a stumbling
block of sorts for me when I attempt crossover fanfic and limits
borrowed characters other than Methos or Amanda to NPC status in my
stories. It's also why I felt the need to tape the gaming sessions for
Matilda's Story. For more information about what I have written, see my
fiction page.
Fanclubs, aside from the image they inspire of people drooling over
actors (something I still don't do) are generally dedicated to
the actors, not to their characters. While I did occasionally learn the
names of the actors that portrayed my favorite characters, it was
primarily the characters that I was interested in. I'll admit that,
when I became the 25th member of the
PWFC
about a month before the first official announcement, I was mostly
interested in finding people to talk about Methos with. It wasn't until
after I met Peter Wingfield at a convention that I really started considering
myself a fan of his. I'm also a fan of
Elizabeth Gracen,
the actress who plays Amanda, though she does not have a fan club.
Unfortunately, her spinoff series, the Raven, was
cancelled, but I saw every episode, including most of the repeats, no
matter what ridiculous time my local station chose to show them.
The PWFC got me involved in a lot of activities. First, I joined their
electronic mailing list, even though I am opposed to such things on the
grounds that I'd never keep up and would have piles of unread messages
filling up my hard drive. Well, I can't keep up and I do have piles of
unread messages filling up my hard drive, but I immensely enjoy those
on-list discussions that I can find time for. The PWFC aslo got me onto
IRC for their bi-weekly chats, something I considered a silly waste of
time. Well, maybe they are a bit silly, but they are fun and the
bi-weekly schedule limits the amount of time they can waste.
Peter is now playing a recurring character, Dr. Robert Helm, in the new syndicated
series, The Queen of Swords. I have joined the mailing list for the show
and am enjoying finally getting to see the episodes after the long wait. Besides
Peter, there are a number of other Highlander alumni involved in the show. Valentine
Pelka is in almost every episode, playing Colonel Montoya. Elizabeth Gracen is guest
starring in one which was written by
Gillian Horvath.
Anthony De Longis was the swordsmaster for the first six episodes
and will be making an appearence as an actor later on.
My first convention was Arisia, which I would have gone to anyway, since
it's a local, general sci-fi and gaming convention that Joe and Kiralee
were going to. Since then, I have flown to Baltimore for SyndiCon,
Denver for the Gathering, Atlanta for DragonCon and DC for Legacy. My
first foreign convention was a Weekend at Joe's, a mini-con in Vancouver,
though I have yet to attend an overseas con. I
missed the first FriendshipCon (the PWFC convention) because I was
moving that weekend but I had a great time at Friendship Con '99 in New
Hampshire. At my first SyndiCon, I joined other members of the PWFC to
bid on Peter in the breakfast auction. At my first Gathering, I was one
of the sixty eight wives of Methos for the PWFC entry in the costume
contest. I've taken lots of photos of various conventions that I've been
at. Several from
Legacy 2000
and A Weekend at Joe's
are here on my web site.
Thunder Castle's
Highlander card game
wasn't my first CCG, but I think I've spent more on Highlander Cards
than on all other CCGs combined. I know I've spent more on a single
card (a Methos Quickening) than I'd ever consider reasonable. Of
course, it was for my birthday. Now there are more Methos cards
available for sale directly from Thunder Castle so, after three years,
their claim that I can play my favorite Immortal is finally true. Now,
if I could only find people to play with...
I've also managed to participate in a fanfic
war and joined a calvary (admittedly a virtual one) when I can't
ride a horse. I've gotten hold of tapes imported from other countries
(England and Canada) for shows that didn't air locally, including a
radio soap called the Archers when I don't like soap operas and don't
listen to radio shows.
I compiled a list of all the Watchers who appeared in Highlander through
the episode, Promises, to use as a reference for writing fanfic. Once
the Watcher Chronicles CD-ROM came out, my list seemed drastically
inferior and I have not bothered to update it, but the ZIP file is
available to download if you wish to see it
anyway. I did use the CD to help my friend Sharon with the Methos
timeline she has up on her site
even though I can't seem to find the time to keep my own site up to
date.
I think the concept of having a
favorite villian
is an oxymoron, but Methos convinced me to name his brother, Kronos as
mine anyway.
