Synthesis & Synchronicity #13

The IRS Deathmarch...

April, in our household, is often the cruelist month, as it is the month Cindy faces the worst demands of her job working for a CPA. Additionally Kiralee has been going thru her own 3 weeks of accounting complications at work, also centered around the events that culminate on April 15th.

This means a lot less personal time for any of us with each other, stressed tempers, overtime and annoyances.

And now winter has decided to rear its head again, long after its usual end point. Seems that the war is acting as a Quantum Butterfly with our weather.... when you drop as many bombs on a single day as there was dropped during the entire Gulf War, it is inevitable that it'll affect things elsewhere. When is the military and the politicians going to learn basic Quantum Mechanics and concepts of cause and effect and resonance?

Meanwhile Kiralee and I have now assumed positions as members of the Cambridge Community Coffeehouse Advisory Board as Community Representatives, making us sort of midwives to this endeavor to establish a new non-profit corporation for the Cambridgeport neighborhood community and local art and music communities to come together in the space of the old Putnam Cafe. We attended three meetings (hosting two of them in our condo) with the rest of the advisory board and the officers of the yet-to-be-incorporated organization to assist in the preparation of the materials to be submitted to Whole Foods to be considered for the cafe space (a process that has been ongoing since January). I'm also working to get an improved website (hopefully online in the next few days) up for them to help maintain lines of communication with the other local community activists interested in this (there are only two other groups interested in the space, folks who ran a local commercial coffeehouse that went bankrupt back in January, and an unnamed retailer who isn't interested in what the community wants for the space).

We visited a meeting last friday with the folks at Curious Minds who were initially working on the project as well, but whom the chief organizer has decided were not meeting our needs or matching community desires for the space, and who failed to produce needed information and materials to make filing deadlines on the project. We still think their organization for creative people is interesting, we're just not working with them in regards to using their non-profit umbrella.

The meeting was about How to follow your wild idea a combination motivational discussion, potluck dinner, networking and idea linkage forum. We had fun, met some interesting people and hopefully made a good impression.

The Western Ave Irregulars have continued to meet with no problems over the last few weeks, and work on the basement project on our condo building continues SLOWLY. We're going thru stress tests on the concrete they previously laid down there for the support beams thru the rest of the month. Then we will get in the new replacement main beam and lallies for the building. After that we have a 3 month (min.) period that will pass while Chris weaves his way thru a permit and zoning board process to get the rest of the building plans approved before we can go to phase 2 of the construction.

Someone asked me at the Coffeehouse meeting whats holding up our building right now.... I answered "magic of course.. and some jacks", but if you think about it the other way, politics :-)

Its going to be a Loooooooooooooong year.

That Brings Me To The Website : I'm once again soliciting for other writers, artists & gamers to contribute articles, games, stories, novels, drawings, paintings etc. to be distributed here. We won't get you rich, but we get a LOT of visibility that can be useful to you, and we'll gladly set up paypal donation links for you to your own email account for the material for those folks that want to send you a buck or more for your efforts and their enjoyment. It's been quite some time since anyone but someone from our household has added to the library, and it would be great to expand the available materials so more folks can find what they want here.

I may have some good news in the next six to ten weeks on the gaming front, as I refine a game design project I'm working on in the background. Its a setting and system combination thats a bit different then anything out there, exploring some new possibilities that I think would be fun. It might not get playtested by our group for quite some time to come, so I'll be waiting to hear feedback from folks who do read it and or try it what they think and how they believe it could be made better. Watch the websiet front page for announcements.

Anyway, that's about all I have to pass on. Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings.....
