Synthesis & Synchronicity #25

Had A Great Weekend

Ok, I'm leading with the personal stuff first. What I'm not leading with this time is a bunch of gripes or complaints or annoyances. This Labor Day Weekend was one of the best weekends that we've had since Beltane. Almost nothing broke, nothing wore out, I got some quality time in with Kiralee on yesterday, I got to see a great movie on DVD, I got to see a classic Dr Who Tv Story on DVD (resurrection of the Daleks), we had a fun Roleplaying session (Dave's Greenstone Game) and generally things went well and left me feeling I had accomplished some things too.

Kiralee is trying to make arrangements for a weeknight RPG, but schedules are not yet meshing with the folks she wants to bring together. We'll know if this is a go in a few weeks, hopefully, and may need to recruit a few more players. I'm also working on a new quick-run campaign, as the Audacity Fantasy Project is going to take me months more work before its ready. What I'm working on is a Hero version of Bureau-13.

Bureau 13 is the roleplaying game/setting originally by Tri-Tac and popularized by Nick Pollata in a series of fast paced action/fantasy books. The original mechanic, although award winning, makes (in some ways) Rolemaster, Hero and GURPS look simple (especially its obsession for tables). The setting is one that needs a mechanic capable of handling things from a 1950s style Noir Detective to the occasional appearance of a certain Squid God, and to me that means Hero.

Folks play members of a covert government agency that trys to protect the public from the worst of supernatural, high tech and cross-dimensional terrors without leaving too many smoking craters and mind wiped population. The game and the books are the inspiration for X-Files, Men In Black, Ghostbusters and a host of other popular films and television, and its companion game (Fringeworthy) appears to be the source for much of the concepts in SG-1.

Its weird, its fast paced, it has a fair amount of combat and detective work, but will include a fair amount of roleplaying. It works well with my preferred short-novel style of gaming (like I used in Earth Unmasked) and should satisfy a number of folks in style. My only problem is I don't know yet whether this will be a Sunday Group Game, or be a Weeknight Game (for Kiralee's current project of setting a new night up and group for it) or something else.

Once I know what's going on I'll set up a B-13 page set here on the website with player handouts etc and possibly campaign notes.

Our Sunday game has some upcoming complications, as Ted, next up in the roster when Dave's campaign takes a pause, wants to shift his involvement to a bi-weekly attendence. This means will need an alternative game to switch off with him that he won't be playing in. The other two possible games (Greg's Puzzlebox and Ben's Crossworlds Shadow) both prominently feature Ted's characters as vital to them, making them very difficult to work around.... and of course in the case of Ben's setting the added problem of a departed member who was one of the 'connecting' characters that kept the rest together as they wandered about the universe. This is why the B-13 game might become the alternative game.... or we may have a major shakeup in the Sun game as well in the near future....

And there's the possibility from a currently non-member of a Buffy RPG appearing in the mix as well (not sure where or when). Confusion reigns while Kiralee mans the helm of the gaming group.

About our donation links : Yes, I know the donation links are not working on the website, this is a paypal problem that should be fixed later this week. Basically we have changed bank accounts and currently cannot receive any money until our new checking account etc. are recognized by the system. I'm hoping to make us also credit card friendly in the near future thru paypal (this may take another month).

Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings.....
