I believe there are four basic kinds of writers block:
Concentration Break : This is basically an environmentally caused problem, from being unable to create the sacred space (mentally or physically) to write.
This can be often corrected by sleep, caffeine, chocolate, taking a walk or going someplace else where you can create your writing space. (I suffer from this one a lot).
Caught In the Gears : This is when you're running along fine with your writing and suddenly hit a proverbial mental brick wall. Often this is caused by
having a problem that you need to work out in your subconscious before you can continue onwards, and your braing refusing to let you skip ahead until you have a solution.
This may be a short term problem, but can be a long term problem.
Afraid In The Dark : This is the most insidious writers block. It's basically caused by fear. It may be fear that you just aren't good enough to write up to your own standards of quality, fear of the reaction of your audience to your content, fear of rejection and in a few cases (with certain people) fear of success.
Right now I feel I'm running back and forth between Concentration Break and Afraid In the Dark on my project writing, but I seem to have less problems doing my journal writing (although Journal writing does tend to be much shorter than the sorts of things I'm used to working on).
Anyway I wanted to share the above with folks, it came to me as sort of a personal ephinany about writers block (I know, I'm probably not saying anything terribly profound).
Computer Update Well I got my package from HP yesterday with the replacement AC Adapter. The good news is that this has reduced the problem, tha bad news is that it hasn't totally eliminated the problem. Evidently both the computer end and the power adapter end were worn, so now I have only a worn computer socket, which makes it more stable after several minutes of fiddling with it to get a good solid power connection. But this means that down the road I still will probably have to replace the darn computer much sooner than my hoped for 3 year cycle of replacing gear.
I hate the fact that EVERYTHING on portable computers is still propriatory, no matter which company you go with. No one makes generic parts for most of the machines, which is unreasonable in this modern age. These aren't wheelock pistols people! ARGH!
I know, it's greed that makes them do this. They can get you coming and going with their high priced parts this way, and get you to keep buying new machines as they wear out rather than replacing just a bad part or two. It may make good business sense, but it makes a LOUSEY way to run the major technology of a society.
Schedule Updated For those interested in the activities of our gaming club, I've updated the Western Ave Irregulars page on my website for the month. We're back to a nice solid gaming schedule for this month (but March will have some problems as Kiralee and I are going away for a period of time during that month).
Personal Front : My dear Kiralee stayed home from work yesterday to help me out with some overload on housework matters so I could manage to rest my back for a couple of days straight without having to do any heavy lifting (the first time in weeks I've been not carrying more weight than I should on a daily basis). This helped tremedously, and since I'm snowbound today it means I may get away with no weight carrying until Monday. That, and a number of nice lower back rubs by her, has left me at least physically feeling better and off the pain killers.
Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings.....

Running On Empty : This is basically when you have nothing to say, and no particular need to say it. This one is rare, in my opinion, and
is quickly recovered from by getting an assignment, idea seed or inspiration.
Knowing which of these is the cause of your problem, is, of course, half the trick to defeating one's writers block. Sometimes you may actually be suffering from two of these combined (and once in a blue moon in three of them).
